Border Defense War Guide: What BDW Is and How to Join
In short: Border Defense War (BDW) is the nation war where Karus and El Morad players fight along the border. On ChromeKO you join on your own nation's side after a free sign-up, and you follow the event schedule on the events page.
This Border Defense War guide covers BDW, the nation war of Knight Online. Karus and El Morad players fight each other along the border and defend their own nation. In this guide we explain what BDW is, how to join it and how to prepare for the battle. Want to see it first? Try it now as a guest, no sign-up.
What is BDW?
BDW is an event in which the two nations meet. Every player fights on the side of their own nation. If your character belongs to Karus, the El Morad players are on the other side of the border, and the reverse is true as well. That means your nation choice places you on a side directly. If you are unsure which nation suits you, read Karus or El Morad.
BDW follows the classic nation war idea of Knight Online. Acting together as a nation matters more than the strength of any single player. That is why even newer players can join a battle and quickly see how lively the game becomes.
Border Defense War guide: how to join BDW
To join BDW you need two things: an account and a character. You can open your account from the free registration page. Registering and playing are free, and you never have to pay to take part.
Follow these steps in order:
- Check the event schedule. The time when BDW opens is listed on the event page. The server staff set the times and they can change, so check the page regularly.
- Get your character ready. Before the battle starts, log in and check your character's status and your inventory.
- Stay with your nation. Do not move alone. Move with the players of your nation, because a scattered team loses quickly in a fight.
- Join a clan. When clanmates move together, coordination improves a lot. For creating and joining a clan, see the clan guide.
Because ChromeKO runs in the browser, you can join BDW from a computer or from a phone. For phone play, see the play guide.
Tips for preparing for the battle
A battle can heat up quickly, so preparation helps you feel calm:
- Know the map. On the maps page you can study the layout of the zones and where the monsters are. Knowing the areas near the border in advance makes it easier to find your way during a fight.
- Stock up on potions. Check your health and mana potions before you enter. Running out in the middle of a fight is the worst moment.
- Keep your connection stable. If you play in the browser, a wired or strong Wi-Fi connection makes the game more stable. On a phone, hold it sideways and close other apps.
- Keep your browser ready. Keep your browser up to date and make sure hardware acceleration is on.
- Talk with your nation. Short, clear messages are enough for everyone to follow the flow of the battle.
BDW rewards and rules
This guide does not list BDW rewards or the detailed rules. These details can change, so the most reliable sources are the event page and the news section. Patch notes and rule changes appear there too. Check the current information before you join, so your expectations are set correctly.
What to do after the battle
Every battle is a chance to learn. After a fight, ask yourself three questions: Where did I struggle? Where did communication break down in the team? What should I change before the next BDW? The answers make a real difference for your nation the next time.
Choosing a role in BDW
Not everyone has to do the same thing in a battle. Some players move to the front, some provide support and others guard the back of the group. Think about what your class does well and find where you can help the team most. Helping the team fill the role it needs makes a bigger difference than trying to stand out on your own.
A checklist before the battle
- Check your connection and your browser before you log in.
- Make sure your potions and spare items are ready.
- Join your nation's or clan's chat.
- Set an alarm a few minutes before the event time shown on the event page.
Staying calm in the fight
Battles are exciting and it is easy to panic. Make short, clear moves, read your team's messages and focus on one target at a time. If you check your character's status regularly, unexpected moments will bother you less.
Common mistakes in BDW
- Arriving late: Entering after the fight has started means you miss the setup of your team.
- Leaving the group: Wandering off alone is one of the fastest ways to lose a fight.
- Going in unprepared: Running out of potions in the middle of a battle is hard to recover from.
- Losing focus: Chasing single targets while the team needs help costs more than it seems.
New to BDW?
Your first BDW may feel hard, and that is normal. In your first battle, aim to learn how your nation moves rather than to win. You will know more after every fight. Learning the basics of the game first will make everything easier.
